Broadway Theatres

Last updated April 20, 2015.

Learn about the 40 currently operating Broadway theatres.

  • To qualify as a Broadway theatre and thereby house productions eligible for the Tony Awards, the house must be located in Manhattan’s Theatre District and contain at least 500 seats.
  • Therefore, New York theatres with a seating capacity of less than 500 but more than 100 are known as the Off-Broadway venue. Smaller theatres with less than 100 seats are considered Off-Off-Broadway.
